One week ago, on Thursday the 6th of October, we conducted the first HSG Luxury Day, a joint event of the Competence Center for Luxury Management and the Career & Corporate Services at the University of St. Gallen. The HSG Luxury Day is a thematic recruiting event focusing on the luxury goods industry, which is part of the event series “Find your future profession”.
In times of rapid changes due to digitalization and changing customer behavior, the focus of the event was not only to present career opportunities, but to exchange about the future of the luxury goods industry from a managerial as well as a consumer perspective.
16 managers from six iconic luxury brands and over 200 students participated in the event. The participating companies were the LVMH brands Parfumes Christian Dior Switzerland and TAG Heuer, Montblanc, Hugo Boss, Estée Lauder Switzerland and Porsche Switzerland.
This year’s event was themed “Next Generation Luxury”. The afternoon was introduced by a panel discussion with six top managers of all participating luxury companies. The panel served to illustrate the range of participating companies and breath of the industry itself. The discussion was moderated by Benjamin Berghaus, Head of the Competence Center for Luxury Management, and was focusing on the central, observable trends in the luxury market.
Afterwards, each company conducted a workshop with 25 to 30 HSG students, where they discussed a specific and current challenge or opportunity for their company. Topics discussed in these workshops were for example millennial customer behavior and customer centricity, the future luxury mobility, the future of hand writing as well as smart watches.
The day was rounded up by an informal Apéro Riche, where managers and students could exchange about the topics treated during the day as well as career opportunities in the participating companies.
